Model Photoshoot in a Storm

A Model Portfolio Photoshoot on the Edge of a Storm

This was a photoshoot that went a little wrong but we pushed through and managed to get some great images. The original plan was to do a bikini photoshoot with a model in a great location at sunset so we could get lovely warm photos in the golden light. The particular location that I chose is a little far out of Auckland City but the results would be worth it if we got the conditions right. The model was up for the drive and everything was looking great.

The morning of the shoot arrived and the day was perfect apart from a bit of wind. I figured that it should be ok to shoot but because it was early Autumn, I was concerned that the model might be a little cold. I packed a car load of gear and took a full lighting kit that I was hoping not to use, because I was looking forward to that golden light.

It was not meant to be, because as I was driving to the location it started to cloud over and the wind really picked up. To make things worse, I could see big sheets of rain coming down in the distance. I met the model at the location and we decided to try to do her portfolio anyway. I decided to set up a simple lighting rig and we started taking photographs. The poor model was freezing so we had to stop every 5 minutes or so and allow her to warm up. This was not the photoshoot that either of us were wanting, but she was amazing and pushed through until it was just too cold to shoot anymore.

I have to say that being prepared for any style of photography meant that I had the right equipment with me and that enabled us to get a great lookbook that we are both proud of.
